When I was in high school I told my dad I wanted to join the Marines.  He flat out said in his Marine authoritative voice, “Absolutely NOT.”  OK, I’m not the rebellious sort, so I said “All right then, I’ll enter the convent, become a missionary, and see the world THAT WAY.”
