I AM SUNSET, AND I BRING YOU A MESSAGE.
The sun is setting on 2009. I notice that very many of you take this time to review your year; you look back on your accomplishments, and on the difficulties you’ve overcome. Some of you experienced heart-wrenching tragedies. Some of you feel quite dissatisfied with the events of the year. Many of you then begin to look forward to a new year, a clean slate, a starting-over point. You may find your spirits lifted with new prospects of happiness. Some say “it’s just another damned year to endure.”
Let me tell you what a sunset really is.
- A time to simply watch, and enjoy the moment, let your breath be taken away, let your heart skip a beat.
- A time to look back and FIND reasons to be happy with yourself, to remember the large and small events where you contributed to the lovely flow of life — where you smiled at a stranger, held a door open for someone with arms full of packages, patiently helped a child with homework., made a new friend, helped out an old friend . . . the list can go on and on. You DID offer yourself, you DID make a difference. Even the smallest gesture sends love out into your world. Remind yourself that what goes around comes around.
- A time to notice that, once the sun has entirely dipped below the horizon, the afterglow is the very, very best of the sunset; it colors the entire sky with hues and shades and intensities that will never be replicated by the hand of man. Similarly, the afterglow of where you’ve been and what you’ve done will reach far beyond what you can even imagine.
- A time to celebrate your humble, most powerful, most beautiful Self, to be truly happy with you, to accept and treasure all that life has handed you, and to know with no uncertainty that everything, simply everything, is a blessing — even if it’s well disguised for a time.
When you take the time for this, at some point you will realize that this is not something to be done once a year when the sun is setting, but daily, with every sunset. If you will, allow me to be your reminder. Every day is worth this reflective celebration of you and your gifts to life; and of life’s gifts to you.
Enjoy my daily visit, and remember to be happy with yourself!

Ah wow, I love this!
I think I will take you up on the suggestion and start watching the sunset more. I will move to the country soon so it’ll be a perfect time
Making “space” to reflect and just be is so important, and I think I do fill my life with too much meaningless busyness – trying to be self-employed to avoid the insanity of the workplace, just to be crazy at home, hah!
Time to start doing what’s important and making space for myself in between…
Love
Andrew
Oh, the COUNTRY! How great for you, to move to a calmer place — good for you, friend, see you at the sunset.
I get the self-employment thing, too. Wishing you the best of whatever comes your way. As always, of course
Thanks, and many best wishes for you too
Hi Jeanne – Frank and I often sit on the front veranda, which faces west, watching the sunset – particularly the afterglow (because before that the sun is in our eyes – heh). The local fruit bats fly over then, too, which adds to the spectacle.
Hope you are having and nice holiday period – and Happy New Year!
Cheers – Robin
Oh my gosh, Robin — batty sunsets? I’m jealous
Holidays ARE great — in San Diego with TWO daughters and lots and lots of shenanigans, whoopee! Happy New Year to you as well, see you then. . .
Hi Jeanne!
What a fabulously glorious photo and message!
When I reflect back, it’s on the positive and the good. When I look ahead, it’s about making choices that mesh with my passions and aspirations.
Blessings for the happiest of new years!
Peggy
Peggy, blessed are those who look for, and find, the positive and the good — and blessed are those who realize how blessed they are
.
It’s so good to hear from you. Back atcha with the new year wishes!
Beautiful photo. Beautiful words. Beautiful you.
Ooooh — warm fuzzies, thank you, Cutie Pie!
I really enjoyed reading this! I hope it’s true in my life. I wish I had your faith in life.
Hi, Dot — I sure do join you in your hopes! And I must admit that many years ago I seemed to be living from one crisis to another in quick succession, and despondency was my constant companion. . . when a friend told me I just needed to “trust life” all I could say was, “what the heck does THAT mean?”
I know from your blog that you’re dealing with many issues, and I love the heartfelt way you write about them — and most of all I adore the humor you’re able to inject in your writing. To me that says you DO have faith in life . . .
I also see in your blog comments that you are VERY DEAR to very many people — so, begging your pardon for this play on words, but life has “gifted” you (with caring friends), and therefore you are gifted — I say, giggling!
