That's for sure! I don't REALLY think the "Jean" pronunciation is boring. I was joking. My mother told me when I was young, "it's the French spelling". Sure enough, when I reached French class in 6th grade, my "French name" was the only one in the class that was the same spelling as my "regular name". (My sister, Joan, later found that her "French name" was also "Jeanne"). ;) Yes, I dealt with my share of mispronunciations... everything from "Jeannie" to "Jeannine" to "Janine". Substitute teachers really had trouble knowing how to pronounce it. As far as your dentist is concerned, I think it is none of his/her business how you pronounce your name. Hopefully, he/she was just joking with you. I don't think dental school involves classes regarding how names "should be" pronounced.
